(Newtownabbey High School)
1. Apologies
St.Colm’s (Twinbrook) – School Inspection
St.Josephs – Staff training day
Grosvenor – Examination cover
2. Minutes – last AGM
Proposed – P.Kerr
Agreed – C.McKenna
3. Reports
(a) Hon Sec and League Secretary – Mark Watson
A two year rotation of this post was put forward by M.Watson due to work load of role – no response given.
(b) Treasurer – Edwin Ferris
Cup finals need to be raising more funds (enclosed grounds required for finals so that an entry fee can be charged).
Pitches should not be booked under E.Ferris’ name. This year he has received two invoices from pitches hired by schools which is unacceptable. If a school is looking for support for cost of pitch hire for the semi-final stage of a cup competition the Association has a maximum limit of £20 that can be forwarded to a school once they have paid for the pitch directly themselves.
(c) Chairman – Mark Watson
A finals day proposed for Under-12/13/14/15. Blanchflower put forward as a potential venue. This is to increase profile and awareness of cup finals. Two weeks before Easter holidays is time of year proposed for this finals day. Concern raised if a school has more than one team in finals.
4. District Team Managers
U 12/13 – G.McConnell/N.McGaughey
U 13/14 – P.O’Callaghan/D.Graham
U 14/15 – K.Millar/Assistant from Ashfield
U15/16 – M.Watson/M.Titherington
U 18 – P.Kerr
Proposal put forward from M.Watson that managers stay with an age group for a minimum of two years, especially at the key age groups (U-12/U-14/U-16). This will prevent managers not re-trialling each year as has happened in the past.
G.McConnell requested that the Association buys training tops for the boys to warm up in and also some sub suits. Tracksuits for the Team Managers were also requested. E.Ferris is chasing up sponsorship for the above items.
E.Ferris congratulated G.McConnell in the good job he had done with the Under-12 side as they played 6 games throughout the year.
Season reports given by G.McConnell (Under-12), K.Millar (Under-13), M.Watson (Under-16) and P.Kerr (Under-18) on fixtures and results. Issue of schools not sending pupils to trials and schools not forwarding on information to pupils about matches was raised, again.
5. Rule Changes
A number of rules were proposed to be changed by M.Watson. These were discussed with the result that some were agreed to be changed and some were not. See BDSSFA website for updated version of rules in August.
Changes were proposed by J.Sullivan and seconded by P.Kerr.
6. League Fixtures
Results have been slow to come in. Next season league results must be emailed to webmaster within 3 days of match.
M.Watson is to email a letter to all football secretaries in the district which are to be forwarded to principals which will outline the commitment of schools to fulfil league fixtures. This is as a result, again, of some schools not fulfilling many league fixtures.
Some schools wish to start an Under-16 league for next season. This will be a friendly league in terms of no trophies or medals will be awarded but a standard league format will be followed. Schools which expressed an interest at the meeting were Ashfield, Aquinas, Glengormley, RBAI and CCC.
Results posted to webmaster must indicate score line in game and not read as ‘conceded to’ or ‘beaten by’ which happened this season. You cannot claim points for fixtures without playing. The competitions committee are the only people who can award points.
If any school refuses to play a fixture that school will be eliminated from the league and all their results will become void.

Competition to be renamed from ‘Under-13’ cup to ‘Year 9’ cup and from ‘Under-15’ cup to ‘Year 11’ cup. This is to save confusion of schools using pupils from Years 8 & 9 in the ‘Under-13’ competition and Years 10 & 11 in the ‘Under-15’competition. Rules state that only pupils from the designated year groups are eligible.
